What sets Kenpo Karate apart from other martial arts styles, is that it cultivates the critical thinker mentality. Every form taught in Kenpo Karate is introduced both solo, done by yourself, and also as a series of practical self defense moves with attackers. If you have ever had that light bulb moment of understanding, that is the magic of Kenpo Karate. You will learn how to defend yourself against multiple attackers in real life situations.
Fundamentals of Kenpo Karate include an emphasis on no wasted movement and economy of motion. We focus on blocking and counterstrikes to vital organs & pressure points. Our techniques use linear and circular strikes with intermittent bursts of speed and power. Kenpo Karate is highly effective and doesn't require you to be able to over power your opponent with brute force.

Cat Gurinsky
Sifu Cat Gurinsky has been training in martial arts since 2000. She holds black belts in Karate (2004), Tae Kwon Do (2009) and Shaolin Kenpo Karate (2016), and has also studied in American Kenpo, Small Circle Jujitsu and Iaido. She has been teaching for most of her martial arts career. In 2016, Cat moved to Austin, TX and founded Immortal Tiger Kenpo Karate in 2017 and rebranded it to Immortal Martial Arts Academy in 2025 when she added additional programs to the schools lineup.. Prior to opening the dojo, the only Kenpo in the Austin area were Ed Parker's American Kenpo and Fred Villari's Shaolin Kempo, making Sifu Cat Gurinsky the first person to bring Ralph Castro's Shaolin Kenpo to Texas.

To this day, Sifu Cat Gurinsky continues to actively study both Shaolin Kenpo and Iaido (Japanese sword). Her parent dojo for Kenpo is Bill Grossman's School of Kenpo Karate in South San Francisco, CA where she trains directly under 10th degree Grandmaster Bill Grossman and 10th degree Grandmaster Pati Grossman. She flies back to the bay area a few times a year to work with Grandmasters Bill & Pati Grossman and continue advancing in rank and technical skills. Since April of 2020, when Bill Grossman's School of Kenpo Karate began offering classes on Zoom in response to COVID, Cat has been able to attend the weekly black belt classes from Austin and also take 1 hour weekly private lessons directly with Grandmaster Bill Grossman. Sifu Cat Gurinsky also serves as the current webmaster for her instructors website, grossmanskenpo.com as well as the shaolinkenpo.com website for the International Shaolin Kenpo Association.

In a couple months (April or May 2025) we'll migrate over to Suites 112 & 114B which has more than twice the mat space and will have brand new tile mats, wall pads, mirrors, and 13' tall ceilings. The lease is signed and we are working on getting things ready. All classes remain in Suite 103 until then. If you are interested in the new Jiu Jitsu and Boxing classes we are adding, those will start once we move.
